A model of a BioChromix polyelectrolyte

BioChromix technology
BioChromix possess a unique and patented technique for detection, imaging, and capture of aggregated oligomerized Aß based on LCP molecules. By appropriate design we can achieve ultra high affinity and selectivity for aggregated proteins, desired in vivo properties and ability to cross the blood brain barrier. BioChromix methods work excellent with standard equipment for measuring fluorescence, absorption, radiation and magnetism. BioChromix have two probe sets, PolyVivo™ and Apolyon™, one for in vivo use and one for conformation bioassays.

Apolyon™ - Targeting aggregated misfolded proteins
BioChromix Apolyon probes, for studying protein conformations or capturing misfolded, aggregated proteins in complex media.

The Apolyon probe bioassays readily capture and detect misfolded protein in presence of excessive amounts of natively folded proteins. If a protein bound to the LCP probe changes its conformation, due to some chemical modification or external stimuli, this will result in a color change of the LCP probe.
PolyVivo™ - Imaging and Therapy
BioChromix PolyVivo™ reagents are tailor made and verified for in vivo use. These reagents can also cross the blood brain barrier depending the desired application.

The side chain functionalities of the LCPs are modified to create electrostatic, hydrophobic or hydrogen bonding patterns in an analogous fashion to amino acid side chains of proteins. The Company's in vivo test for AD, in which an agent is injected into the blood and targets selectively the misfolded proteins in the body or brain, can be used to highlight these using the selected 'imaging' technique, PET, SPECT, MRI or NIR.
State-of-the-art
BioChromix state-of-the-art PolyVivo and Apolyon LCP technologies can target protein-to-protein interactions, protein structures, A-beta, prions, protofibrils, fibrils or amyloids can be selectively stained, captured and detected. BioChromix development line focus on R&D assays, in vitro diagnostics and in vivo imaging of Alzheimer's disease.

BioChromix' LCP technology was recently selected as Point of View in the prestigious journal ACS Chemical Biology, see "When Conjugated Polymers Meet Amyloid Fibrils" [Cliff I. Stains and Indraneel Ghosh (Aug 2007), ACS Chemical Biology, Vol. 2(8)]. This independent publication presents luminescent conjugated polythiophene (LCP)-based polymers as a new class of dyes that can resolve differences between fibril conformations. The authors are excited about the LCP work since it provides a new reagent for direct fluorescence imaging of amyloid fibrils. Numerous human diseases are caused by abnormal aggregation of specific proteins, such as Alzheimer's disease. The LCP development towards new diagnostic agents capable of distinguishing between different morphologies of aggregated proteins is of much interest.
